The Institute of Diabetes »Gerhardt Katsch« Karlsburg announces celebration of 300 experimental apheresis treatments in the non-anaesthetised rat model
Based on its unique experience the department of preclinical research of the Institute of Diabetes »Gerhardt Katsch« Karlsburg, Germany, has currently performed the 300th successfully apheresis treatments in non-anaesthetised rats. During these treatments the specifically developed miniaturised apheresis technique has been applied for experimental therapy in different rodent models of human diseases.
The miniaturised apheresis equipment permits evaluation of the therapeutic efficacy of different apheresis procedures. Either single and repeated plasmapheresis or extracorporeal apheresis treatments of whole blood drawn from unrestricted animals, examination of the effect of these treatments on the course of specific diseases and evaluation of the mechanism of action of different apheresis procedures are outstanding offers which currently are only available at the department of preclinical research of the Institute of Diabetes »Gerhardt Katsch« Karlsburg.
Applying apheresis in an extracorporeal circuit, different adsorber columns for whole blood or separated plasma have been evaluated to remove pathogenic components from these body fluids. The high experienced administration of apheresis treatment in the miniaturised rat model, the excellent handling of the catheterised animals and the know-how from in the meantime more than 300 successful apheresis treatments provides in the Institute of Diabetes »Gerhardt Katsch« Karlsburg worldwide unique conditions for public and private institutions to perform apheresis projects in rodent models.
